EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Amba Shepherd Talks New Single "Off The Grid", Working With EDX, And Her Music

She’s recently collaborated with EDX on the amazingly catchy new single “Off The Grid“, Amba Shepherd is set to continue her amazing career in dance music. She’s already made quite the name for herself and this new single has got us playing the track on repeat. We were honoured to interview her again.

Amba Shepherd is a staple in dance music and has contributed her voice to many EDM releases over the years. She’s mostly known for featuring on Hardwell’s track titled “Apollo”. She’s worked with the likes of Porter Robinson, Nervo, Laidback Luke, Benny Benassi, Paul Oakenfold, and Afrojack. This new release, “Off The Grid“, is the first time that she has worked with EDX and it’s a perfect match. This will certainly one of our summer hits of the year. We also, recently, interviewed EDX about this track and working with Amba Shepherd.

When we were offered the chance to interview Amba Shepherd we were delighted. We last spoke to her about the release of her single “Wide Awake & Dreaming” in February 2017, so it was great to catch up with her again. We spoke about the new single “Off The Grid“, what it was like to work with EDX, and what we can expect from her for the rest of 2019.

Hi Amba Shepherd, we haven’t chatted to you in some time, how is your day going today?

Awesome thanks!

Surprisingly, we last spoke to you in February 2017 upon the release of your single “Wide Awake & Dreaming”. What have you been up to over the past two years?

Writing songs and touring the world.

Your latest single is a collaboration with EDX, titled “Off The Grid”, can you tell us more about the song?

“Off The Grid” is a song about getting away from it all, getting in touch with nature and your soul, and being free.  Something that has been super important to me to detox from the stress of touring and the crazy hectic schedules of studio and music.  Getting back to life is everything.

How did the collaboration come about, and what was he like to work with?

I sent EDX the vocal lyric / melody part and he produced the track underneath it.  I loved writing this song with EDX! He is such an iconic artist and we have been chatting for a while so it’s amazing to see our work come together with this record.

How does it differ to your previous releases?

I love bassy house music it’s a really great fit for me.

The song follows up your single “Another World” which was a collaboration with JaySounds, can you tell us more about this track?

“Another World” is a dark moody bass track with a soaring harmony driven vocal part.

How did the collaboration with JaySounds come about and what was he like to work with?

JaySounds & I met on my Australian agency roster SoapBox he is an incredible producer and extremely creative and hardworking – definitely, one to watch.

The two tracks, “Another World” and “Off The Grid”, are pretty different, showing off your diversity as an artist. What’s it like being able to showcase different sides to yourself and your voice?

Writing and performing across different genres allows me to be freely creative and ultimately I think that freedom leads to better quality work and a creative process that’s really enjoyable for me.

You’ve had quite the career to date and have worked with many high-profile DJs and music producers. Looking back on it all what do you consider as your biggest highlights and why?

I try not to look back – the best is yet to come.

You started your music career in 2010, how did you get into music and how did your childhood shape your career?

I grew up in a musical family and studied classical piano, voice, dance, clarinet, flute, drums. I was really obsessed with music from the age of about 15 years old. I was also naturally introverted as a child and still am which means that I’ve always loved spending hours and hours by myself in the studio.

Thinking about the number of collaborations you’ve released. How did you gain so many opportunities?

It’s been a combination of hard work, never giving up in the face of rejection, believing in myself, keeping on writing every day, eventually a groundswell or tidal change happened and other people started believing in me too.

How would you describe your work ethic?

Dedicated and obsessive; I always make time for myself to meditate and get clarity around big decisions; and, I always create space to travel so I can disconnect from routine and find new inspiration.

What can we expect from you for the rest of 2019?

2019 is my favourite year so far! Get ready for lots of new music.

And, finally, do you have a message for your fans?

Thanks SO MUCH for your unwavering love and support. Come say hi anytime on Instagram!
