Northfield, Adelaide: Man killed in horror crash on Briens Rd

A man has died in a horror smash after his car crashed into a power pole.

Emergency services were called to Briens Rd in Northfield, about 10km north of Adelaide, after reports a car had crashed into a power pole at about 4.30am on Thursday.

At 1pm, SA Police confirmed a 69-year-old man died at the scene.

He was the sole occupant of the silver Ford Focus.

Images from the scene show debris scattered all over the road.

Briens Rd is closed in both directions, causing major delays for peak-hour travellers.

The road is blocked between Hoods Rd and South Terrace, with closures expected to be in place for some time.

SA Police has advised motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
